I had SO much fun repurposing this wooden entertainment center from the 90’s into this super cool “mud room”. I don’t have an entryway closet in my house and I just love that something like this could let anyone have a closet and spot to hold all the things and get ready for each day.

I cut the top right corner away and smoothed everything down. I removed excess trim, added a shiplap accent space and filled all holes and spaces with wood filler, then sanded smooth, cleaned and primed.

I converted the tall cabinet into a closet with 4 double matte black metal farmhouse hooks to hang backpacks or coats.

I removed the double glass door on the taller cabinet and replaced with an upcycled solid wood oak door secured with a piano hinge and a pressure latch to hold it shut.

I hung 3 smaller matte black metal hooks on the seat shiplap side to hang keys, hats, etc.

There is a double door cabinet under the “seat” that would hold tons of shoes, hats/gloves, bags, etc.

There are two smaller cubbies perfect for drop spots or open storage.

I used a custom color of enamel(scratch resistant) cabinet & furniture paint in my paint sprayer for a smooth and brush stroke free finish that in person looks a bit like a very light duck egg gray/blue. I sealed the top shelf, seat and kick base board and ends with clear satin polycrylic topcoat. Then I used spray matte clear topcoat on every remaining painted space.

I used durable vinyl adhesive paper in the backs, bottoms and sides of the closet and all cubbies.

I reused the original hinges on the cubby by painting them matte black with clear topcoat.
